President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has today Thursday, July 21, 2022 announced a mini cabinet reshuffle, with the highlight of the new appointments being that of Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao as the Minister in charge of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
In the same mini reshuffle, State Minister for Education and Sports Hamson Obua ate big as he was elevated from junior (state) minister to full cabinet minister. Obua, the Ajuri County MP (on the NRM ticket) has been appointed as the new Government Chief Whip (GCW).
GCW takes over from Ruhinda North MP (NRM) Thomas Tayebwa who resigned from the position of Government Chief Whip to vie for deputy speaker job months ago following the demise of Speaker of Parliament Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah. Tayebwa would later win the deputy speakership, and is currently serving under Speaker Anita Annet Among (who reolaced Oulanyah).
Tayebwa had barely spent a year in office as Government Chief Whip when he resigned to vie for deputy speakership. Tayebwa had replaced Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu who is now the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development.
Meanwhile, in this same mini reshuffle, Museveni transferred Peter Ogwang, the Ngariam County MP (on the NRM ticket) from the Ministry of Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President to serve as junior (state) Minister for Education and Sports.
Ogwang will be working under first lady Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi who is the senior cabinet minister for Education and Sports. Ogwang, who had already made a number of monitoring visits across the country, will replace Obua, the new Government Chief Whip.
“I thank HE the President for yet again entrusting me with a new leadership position to serve this country in the best interest. Serving as State Minister for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President has been the most exciting journey so far. I will continue to give my best in the Ministry of Education and Sports,” Ogwang reacted to his new appointment.
Museveni also appointed Agago District Woman MP Beatrice Akello Akori to replace Ogwang as Minister of State for Economic Monitoring in the office of the president.
