MILITARY SIEGE: Besigye, Bobi Wine homes surrounded by security forces ahead of Museveni sixth term swearing-in ceremony

Police, UPDF and other security forces have surrounded homes of Uganda’s main opposition leaders Dr Kizza Besigye of FDC and Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine of NUP ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s sixth term swearing-in ceremony on May 12.

“My home [in Magere] is surrounded by the police and military!” said Bobi Wine.

While security intelligence claims Bobi Wine wants to swear himself in as president and start off riots, it was readily unclear why Besigye’s Kasangati home was under siege.

May 12 is a public holiday, and almost 20 heads of state are expected to attend Museveni’s Kololo inauguration for a new five-year term at the end of which he will have led Uganda for four decades.

Museveni was for the first time not up against his former bush war personal physician Dr Besigye in a presidential election since 2001.

His polled 58 per cent of the just over 10 million votes cast while his new challenger pop star Bobi Wine managed 35 per cent, majority of these from his home Buganda subregion where his NUP also won many Parliamentary seats, edging FDC as main opposition political party.
