Uganda Police Force (UPF) has confirmed a raid on singer Mathias Walukagga’s home in Wakiso District’s Maya Sub County early February 03 morning, but denied arresting the Kyengera Town Council mayoral candidate.
“Walukaga wasn’t arrested since upon seeing the officers ran inside his house,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
Owoyesigyire noted that the raid, that happened past midnight, was necessitated by reports of an illegal gathering at the National Unity Platform (NUP) politician’s home.
“The operation was as a result of information of a group of people who had gathered at the musician’s home for a reason not yet known,” the police publicist claimed.
“At least 45 suspects , most of them residents of Kawempe Division were arrested and are currently detained at Nateete Police Station and Nsangi Police Station on allegations of doing negligent acts likely to spread an infection of a disease. The suspects are being processed and will be arraigned in courts of law at any time.”
Walukagga is contesting with over 10 others in the race for Kyengera Town Council mayor. These include: Experito Gganaggwa, Geoffrey Ssebaggala (NRM), Ssaalongo David Muweera (DP), Robert Luswata, Ibrahim Kiggundu, Diriisa Kyambadde, Adrian Ssekyanzi, Peter Balikuddembe Jjumba, Bonny Lule Kiwanuka, Nabil Bunya, James Malinga, Gonzaga Matovu and Mikidard Kasolo.
