Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has officially fired a committee chairperson for moving a motion for the removal of Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi as a Commissioner of Parliament.
Mpuuga has today announced the appointment of a new legislator to serve as the Chairperson of the Local Government Public Accounts Committee, one of the accountability committees run by the opposition after firing Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Layibi-Bardege Division Member of Parliament.
Mapenduzi fell in trouble with the National Unity Platform (NUP) led opposition when he moved a motion for the removal of Zaake, a blue-eyed boy of the Kamwokya-based party’s boss Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, for disrespecting Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Commission.
Now, Mpuuga has announced the appointment of Gilbert Olanya, the Kilak South MP of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as the new chairperson of the Local Government Committee.
Olanya has been serving as the shadow minister of East African Community (EAC) Affairs. This position will now be held by Kalungu East Member of Parliament Francis Katabaazi, the man who ejected now defence and veteran affairs minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja in the 2021 parliamentary elections.
Mpuuga also appointed Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli as the new Shadow Minister for Fisheries, replacing Charles Tebandeke, the NUP MP representing the people of Kayunga District’s Bbale County.
It should be remembered that the sacking of Zaake was, surprisingly, welcomed by some opposition MPs, with FDC spokesperson making it clear that NUP had made a mistake to appoint the youthful MP as a commissioner of Parliament. (Read Story Here).
