MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Museveni Minister Reveals Date When Fuel Prices Will Come Down to Normal

The state minister in charge of minerals at the energy and mineral development ministry, Peter Lokeris, has announced the date when fuel prices will go down — and become normal.

Fuel prices at pump stations have remained high since the beginning of the year.

According to Minister Lokeris (Chekwii East – NRM), the high petrol pump prices of petroleum products have caused by product scarcity occasioned by tough Covid19 testing rules for drivers of incoming trucks.

He has assured the nation that once supply becomes normal, prices too will normalize.

Yet even when more fuel has been brought into the country, the prices have remained at over Shs5,000.

Lokeris says operators who refuse to return fuel prices to normal when supply has become stable will be punished in accordance with Section 30 of the Petroleum Supply Act.

“The action can constitute closure of petrol stations, issuance of penalties or revocation of licenses in extreme cases,” Lokeris recently said in a statement on the supply and escalating petroleum prices.

So, when should Ugandans expect the prices to normalize?

Minister Lokeris has assured the nation that by Thursday, February 10, 2022, prices will have reduced.
