Lukwago tells Museveni why Kampala lockdown plan is useless

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has urged President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni from announcing a lockdown over the capital city.

President Museveni will address the nation Sunday evening on new measures to curb the second wave of coronavirus.

Lockdown or no lockdown? Museveni sets date for announcement of new Covid19 measures

Admitting that the spike in cases is a “worrisome trend,” Lukwago wondered why “the publication of the much hyped National Task force interventions agreed upon in yesterday’s meeting has been deferred to Sunday!”

Lukwago advised Museveni to stress the importance of observing standard operating procedures (SOPs) instead of instituting another lockdown, partial or countrywide.

“Anyway, whatever the case may be, let’s put emphasis on masking, handwashing and sanitisation as the major S.O.Ps,” the Lord Mayor advised.

“The drive towards mass testing and vaccination should also be boosted as we equip our public health facilities and accredit competent private hospitals for case management.”

He warned the president lockdowns and other strict measures were nolonger sustainable and would hurt the economy, education and other sectors.

“Curfews, lock down, bodaboda cyclists registering passengers, staggering academic calendar, stopping people from coming to Kampala and Wakiso etc are no longer tenable and shouldn’t feature in the new measures to be announced.”
