Seasoned Museveni regime critic and Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago has shockingly placed a bet against President Yoweri Museveni being Uganda’s President in 2026.
The seasoned opposition politician says there will most likely be political change in Uganda but regrets to note that this will not be through an election.
He has also shocked the nation through his bet on who will be President after tipping long time foe, General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, also Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF).
Commenting on MK’s recent big announcement that he would not stand for president in the 2026 general election, Lukwago has pessimistically refused to take it in good faith, rather raising suspicion that there is an underhand plot to capture power before the election period comes.
“Those who are still hoping there will be elections in 2026 are dreaming. All signs point towards a possible military capture of power before 2026. Muhoozi has already hinted that no civilian will succeed his father. He won’t be on the ballot yet still, he wants to he President. How then will he be one if not through aggression?” Lukwago rhetorically asked in an exclusive interview with a local media channel.
The Lord Mayor goes on to draw similarities between Museveni’s son and some of the World’s fiercest dictators, both past and present, who are known for their hatred for elections in their countries. These, he notes, are: Col Muammar Gaddafi of Libya (Rip), Benito Mussolini of Italy, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Stalin of Russia, among others.
He notes that the CDF is a staunch disciple of fallen Libyan strongman, Gaddafi who, he says, trained him and bestowed the first major army rank before President Museveni followed suit.
Drawing comparisons between Museveni’s most recent claims that Bobi Wine’s NUP stole his one million votes in the 2021 elections and Gaddafi’s counsel in the early 1990s that revolutionaries are not meant to be subjected to elections, Lukwago deduces that the Museveni administration is tired of elections and is set to do away with them once and for all.
