SUICIDE OVER LOVE: A female student aged 16 has killed herself by taking poison after her father reportedly directed her to end a love relationship with her boyfriend.
Hailing from Nyamwamba East in Kasese Municipality, the teenager decided to end her life instead of obeying her father’s orders.
Local authorities in Kasese District have identified the girl as Barbra Kabugho. She was a Senior Two student at Standard High School in Nyamwamba.
Nyamwamba East Cell LC I Chairman Moses Kathaba confirmed the incident and told this reporter that the Senior Two student had been in relationship with a young man only identified as Comfort from Kizungu Cell for some time.
But her father insisted that her daughter should first concentrate on books and get into relationships when she has become an adult.
Kabugho’s father, Nehemiah Mulewa, has revealed that trouble started when his daughter returned home with her boyfriend, something that shocked and displeased him.
He added that he ordered her to help his brother prepare supper since their mother had gone for a business trip in Bunyangabu but the late (Kabugho) did not listen.
Mulewa was father angered by his daughter spending her time with her boyfriend Comfort behind the house.
That when she called her again, her reaction changed. He also claimed that he saw his daughter vomiting. It later emerged that Kabugho had swallowed poison.
She was rushed to Mount St Mary’s hospital but she breathed her last at 10pm on July 03.
Cases of children and students killing themselves (committing suicide) have been common in recent years. Months ago, there was shock after a nine-year-old girl killed herself inside a toilet after her grandmother told her to wash utensils. (See Details Here).
