In the first part of our reports on expired courses or academic programs in Ugandan universities and institutes, we cast the spotlight on Makerere University and Kyambogo University. In the third part of our reports on expired courses or academic programs in Ugandan universities and institutes, The Pearl Times now focuses on the public universities of Kabale, Busitema, Muni, Lira, Soroti & Mountains of the Moon University.
A reminder that the lists of expired courses at Kabale, Busitema, Muni, Lira, Soroti & Mountains of the Moon University are based on data from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) as accessed by The Pearl Times on June 22, 2024. The data at NCHE may change as review of courses is an ongoing process.
At Kabale University, at least 13 courses or academic programs were expired. They were all due for review. Bachelor’s degree programs due for review were: Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management, Bachelor of Applied Design and Fine Art, Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (BEHSC), and Bachelor of Information Technology.
Kabale University’s expired diploma programs were: Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Records Management and Diploma in Science in Computer Science.
Three master’s degree programs at Kabale University had also been flagged expired, and, therefore, due for review by the National Council for Higher Education. They were: Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Masters in Paediatrics and Child Health and Masters of Public Health.

At least seven courses or academic programs at Busitema University had expired. They included bachelor’s degree programs such as Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Anaethesia.
Diploma courses that are due for review at Busitema University include Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology – Chemistry, Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology-Physics and Diploma in Industrial Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
Two master’s degree programs at Busitema University are also due for review. They are: Master of Science in Environmental Economics and Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child Health.

Bachelor’s degree courses that are due for review are: Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies, Bachelor of Banking and Development Finance, Bachelor of Community Development, Bachelor of Information Systems, Bachelor of Science in Network Security, Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, as well as Bachelor of Tourism, Travel and Hospitality.
Diploma courses that have expired are: Diploma in Computer Science, Diploma in Health Promotion and Education, Diploma in Health Services Management, Diploma in Public Administration and Management, Diploma in Public Health, Diploma in Secretarial Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management. The university’s Master of Public Health program has also expired.
