President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s ruling NRM party has released the list of names of its MPs posted to Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The Appointments Committee’s first assignment will be the vetting of cabinet ministers and ministers of state (junior ministers).
President Museveni is expected to release his cabinet list soon.
The new ministers will be nominees until Parliament’s Appointments Committee has approved them as suitable to serve in their respective postings.
Speaker of Parliament is the chairperson of the committee that vets presidential nominees.
After NRM CEC agreed on the names, party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba wrote to Speaker Oulanyah, who is also a CEC member, officially submitting the list.
“I write in compliance with the rules of Parliament to forward to your office the names of 22 nominees of the National Resistance Movement to the Appointments Committee of Parliament,” Lumumba informed Oulanyah.
The opposition, by virtue of their numbers, will have fewer members on the committee.
