LIST: Here are Museveni’s State Lodges Whose Land Risks Being Grabbed by Powerful & Wealthy Thieves

Titles for land on which up to 18 state lodges are currently seated are prone to grabbing and theft by unscrupulous, wealthy and well connected people who have made it a habit to steal land belonging to both government, private individuals and communities, Uganda’s Parliament has warned.

MPs on Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee have expressed fears over the failure by officials from State House to secure and update land titles belonging to 18 State lodges.

In a meeting with State House officials on July 04, the legislators accused the presidency of administrative negligence which they warned has made the multi-billion properties susceptible to land grabbers who have insatiable appetite and greed for land.

The MPs were also unhappy with State House for undertaking projects worth billions of money on the land belonging to the state lodges without approved plans.

They argued that such impunity was likely to spread to all government institutions whose bosses would consider it normal to operate in such illegal ways since the most important office in the land was also not following the rules.

In response to the concerns raised by the MPs, State House Comptroller Jane Barekye admitted that there were indeed mistakes in the management of state lodges’ properties and projects thereon.

But Barekye told legislators that she and fellow officials at State House would soon start on the process of ensuring that the land on which the lodges are located get titles.

Here are the 18 state lodges whose land risks being stolen by powerful, wealthy and well connected grabbers:

  1. Luwero
