LIST: Education Ministry Appoints 170 Secondary School Deputy Headteachers

The Ministry of Education and Sports, through the Education Service and Commission (ESC), has announced the appointment of nearly 170 deputy headteachers for various secondary schools across the country.

The 169 appointed deputy headteachers were among the hundreds of teachers who had applied for the positions that the Education Service Commission advertised under Advert Number 5&6/2023.

Established by article 167 91) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the Education Service Commission is responsible for appointing all personnel in the education service, including teaching and non-teaching staff.

The commission is also responsible for developing, maintaining and improving the quality of the recruited personnel and that of the education service in general.

Dr Asuman Lukwago, the secretary to the Education Service Commission, made the announcement for the appointment of the 169 deputy head teachers under the secondary education department after the candidates passed interviews administered by the same commission.

Those who did not appear on the list but had sat the interviews were considered unsuccessful. Successful candidates were called to pick their notification letters from the Education Service Commission registry at Farmers House in Kampala on June 07.

Also appointed were Staff for Nursing and Midwifery Health Training Institutions as well as Allied Health Training Institutions under the Department of Health Education and Training (HET) at the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Up to 52 new staff were appointed to Nursing and Midwifery Health Training Institutions while 23 landed jobs in Allied Health Training Institutions. Under the Department of TVET Trainers Training, Research and Innovation (TTTRI), six candidates were appointed as staff for Health Tutors’ College, Mulago.

For the Directorate of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the Education Service Commission also appointed six staff for the Directorate of Education Standards.
