Like His Friend Museveni, President Ruto Consoles Fired ‘Ministers’ with other State Jobs

Kenya’s President William Ruto has handed state jobs to two of the ministers or cabinet secretaries he sacked following pressure from protests by Gen Zs.

In an announcement by Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, the former CSs and others appointed are expected to help in the implementation and evaluation of Bottom Up Economic Agenda (BETA) that Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza coalition promised during the campaigns.

Returning to government is Eliud Owalo who was fired as ICT Cabinet Secretary. Owalo is now the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Performance and Delivery Management.

Koskei explained that Ex-CS Owalo’s appointment is at the “ministerial level” and its roles effective and efficient implementation, monitoring and evaluation of priority projects and initiatives of the 5th administration in line with the BETA Plan.

Owalo’s office will also oversee performance of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in service delivery, according to Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei.

Also appointed is sacked Public Service CS Moses Kuria who will now become a Senior Advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors.

President Ruto also appointed digital strategist Dennis Itumbi the new Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Executive Office of the President.

This appointment, explained Koskei, “will go into fostering this administration’s zeal of innovation and growth towards a robust yet novel sector in the economic sphere.”

In another announcement as contained in a gazette dated August 23, Ruto also appointed former Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney the chairperson of the National Lottery Board for three years.

According to the same gazette notice, former Narok Governor Samuel Tunai is now the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

Weeks ago, President Ruto dissolved his cabinet, appointing new faces (including those from the opposition) and returning other CSs.

In neighboring Uganda, whenever he has announced cabinet reshuffles, President Yoweri Museveni has consoled some of the fired ministers with presidential advisor jobs. (See Details Here and There).
