Members of Parliament from the Tooro sub-region want Nakawa West legislator and his Public Accounts Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) to stop the investigation into national carrier Uganda Airlines as well as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jennifer Bamuturaki Musiime.
A daughter of a former MP from Tooro, Bamuturaki was last week in the news for all the bad reasons as Ssenyonyi’s Cosase unearthed several shockers, including in the CEO’s recruitment process and management of the revamped national carrier.
Opinion on the matter remains highly divided, with the pro-Bamuturaki group that includes government officials and sympathizers telling Ugandans to be ‘patriotic’ and stop trying to pull down the CEO and the Uganda Airlines she heads.
The anti-Bamuturaki group insists that the former MP’s daughter must be probed and thrown out from the job they say she does not qualify to hold, at least according to the revelations emerging from the interface between Cosase and Uganda Airlines officials.
The group defending Bamuturaki includes MPs from Tooro sub-region (and Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru’s Tooro Kingdom).
The Tooro MPs group is led by Fort Portal Municipality Central Division legislator, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Tooro/Rwenzori Parliamentary Forum, say it is high time Ssenyonyi (who is also the spokesperson of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform – NUP), backed off the investigation into Bamuturaki’s qualifications as well as the alleged rot at the national carrier.
Ruhunda and his colleagues claim that by exposing Bamuturaki, Ssenyonyi has launched a direct battle against the Kingdom of Tooro and the subjects of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru.
But Ssenyonyi has laughed off Ruhunda’s calls and vowed to continue exposing Bamuturaki and her colleagues at Uganda Airlines.
MP Ruhunda and his fellow legislators are not the first people to tell Ssenyonyi and his Cosase to stop the probe into Bamuturaki and her Uganda Airlines.
A senior Museveni minister recently called Ssenyonyi to reportedly leave his relative Bamuturaki or wait for trouble. Another famous Museveni boy even told Ssenyonyi that Bamuturaki was chosen by God’s angel and nobody can remove her from office. (Read Stories Here and There).
Meanwhile, Works and Transport Minister Gen Katumba Wamala has begged Ugandans to stop using their energy to pull down Bamuturaki and Uganda Airlines.
