LEAVE ME ALONE! Besigye Trashes Muhoozi Tweet Praising Him

Ugandan opposition leader Col (Rtd) Dr Warren Kizza Besigye Kifefe has rubbished a tweet in which first son and senior presidential advisor Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was praising him and expressing how he dislikes People Power pressure group and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, the pop star and politician.

It all began after Gen Muhoozi, who was recently fired by his father Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for his careless tweets (including his threat to capture the Kenyan capital Nairobi within two weeks), tweeted calling Col Dr Besigye an elder he has something to learn from unlike Bobi Wine, whom he said he had no leaf to borrowed.

But Dr Besigye has read evil intentions in Muhoozi’s praises of him, and made it clear that such would not deter him from continuing to work with change-seeking forces to end Gen Museveni’s rule and ensure that his son (Gen Muhoozi) does not succeed the former bush war leader (Museveni) as president.

Besigye went on to note that it should be clear to all and sundry that Gen Muhoozi was seeking attention that he ordinarily would not get if he did not make it appear like he was praising him — and would probably be comfortable working the four-time presidential candidate and his father’s fiercest critic for the past two decades.

In Besigye’s view, Muhoozi wants the change-seeking forces to begin suspecting that he is a mole who works with Museveni, his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government and the president’s son who some think is the country’s crown prince or heir apparent to the throne his father has occupied for nearly four decades since taking over power following a five-year National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war which Besigye was part of and in which he worked as warlord Museveni’s personal physician and treated injured combatants.

In his response, Besigye also insisted on a transition and not a succession since Uganda is not a monarchy where power is supposed to move from a king to a prince, from Museveni to his son. The veteran opposition politician said that the Museveni regime should know that the opposition are united and committed to ending the NRM’s gun rule and ensuring that there is a peaceful and fundamental transition from gun rule to people-rule.

“The intention is obvious: to attract the attention of those you would not; make yourself what you’re not and try to cause people to think of each other in ways they are not! Bottomline is we’re United to end gun-rule and have TRANSITION to people-rule! Transition NOT succession!” wrote Besigye.

Meanwhile, Muhoozi has previously told Bobi Wine that his (Muhoozi’s) ‘army’ will not allow him (Bobi Wine) to become Uganda’s president. Bobi Wine is also on record as telling Muhoozi that he will not even get as little as 5% of the total votes if he runs for president in 2026. (Read Story Here).
