More shocking revelations are emerging about the woes at Uganda Airlines, with the latest being the huge salaries and the disparities between several officials.
Led by newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jennifer Bamuturaki, the national carrier’s bosses today appeared before the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) whose chairperson is Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi.
One of the issues discussed was the salary structure at Uganda Airlines.
The juicy salaries of the CEO, Chief Finance Officer, Director in charge of Maintenance , Human Resource Manager, IT Manager, and other officials left MPs on Ssenyonyi’s Cosase shocked.
They wondered why these officials were taking home juicy salaries every month yet the national carrier has been making losses in recent years.
According to reports by John Muwanga, the Auditor General, the Uganda National Airlines Company Limited made a Shs 102.4bn loss in the 2019/2020 financial year. This loss rose to Shs 164.57bn in the 2020/2021 financial year.
Cosase boss Ssenyonyi directed Uganda Airlines bosses to put in place a salary and staff structure within just one month to help the national carrier understand which kinds of employees are needed and which ones are not. Bamuturaki and her bosses asked for more time, particularly up to the end of the year.
Earlier, Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki shocked MPs when she said that she never applied for the job but Museveni gave it to her. (Read Story HERE).
