A section of Busoga Kingdom chiefs opposed to Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV says they are making the necessary preparations to install Edward Columbus Wambuzi Muloki as their new king.
On January 03, a section of members of the council of chiefs fired Kyabazinga Nadiope Gabula IV (Read story here).
First, Prime Minister Katuukiro Dr Joseph Muvawala issued a statement insisting Nadiope Gabula IV was still Kyabazinga and would rule Busoga until he dies.
Hours later, the six chiefs called a press conference to cement their position on the ‘sacking’ of Kyabazinga Gabula IV. (Read what they said here).
Kyabazinga Nadiope Gabula IV has since cracked the whip against some the chiefs, with their vehicles (which had been donated by President Museveni) confiscated, while others have been dethroned. (Read story here)
Now, the anti-Gabula chiefs are planning to officially install Wambuzi as Kyabazinga.
According to Samuel Mutono Babuli, the prime minister of Bulamogi chiefdom, says nothing will stop them from removing Gabula and installing Wambuzi, the same way it happened in 1955, when another power struggle involving the grandfathers of Gabula and Wambuzi ended with the former voted out by the Lukiiko (Kingdom Parliament).
On January 21, Bulamogi Prime Minister Babuli received a document declaring Wambuzi as the Kyabazinga.
“We are going to make it [conduct the installation of Wambuzi]. You will know it, the man [Wambuzi] will enter his office,” said Babuli after receiving the document of declaration.
He said the declaration was a step in the right direction concerning the removal of Gabula and the installation of Wambuzi.
