Moses Nkonge Kibalama has spoken out on reports that he charged Bobi Wine millions for his National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party (NURDP) that morphed into the National Unity Platform (NUP).

In July 2020, Kibalama, the founder and former president of NURDP, announced that his party had re-branded and morphed into NUP.

He also told all and sundry that he had ceded the party’s leadership to Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Some critics claimed that Kibalama had sold the party, which had been largely inactive for almost 16 years, to Bobi Wine for a figure they put somewhere between Shs200m and Shs5bn.

But Kibalama has dismissed reports that he sold NURDP to Bobi Wine.

“There have been reports that Honorable Kyagulanyi bought the party from us. That’s rubbish, total rubbish,” Kibalama told reporters in Kampala on August 08.

“A political party is not a commodity for sale and I wonder which supermarket sells political parties; you cannot own a political party as an individual.”

KIBALAMA ON RECEIVING DEATH THREATS

Meanwhile, Kibalama also claimed he has constantly received death threats and that some people have been trailing him since he ceded NURDP (NUP) leadership to Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine is the 2021 presidential flag bearer for the party. But journalist Andrew Mwenda recently claimed he would challenge him for the NUP flag.

“I want to inform the nation that ever since we made these changes, I have been receiving threatening calls and messages asking why I allowed Hon Kyagulanyi to become the party president or party leader,” Kibalama alleged.

“Last week, some people came to my home at night and I had to run away through other security corridors; I didn’t spend the night at my home and they continue following me everywhere I go around town putting up all kinds of statements.”
