Revised 2025-2026 General Elections Roadmap

The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the revised 2025-2026 General Elections Roadmap. The roadmap covers activities like demarcation of electoral areas, the compilation of voters’ register, nomination of candidates and polling dates.

According to the revised 2025-2026 general elections roadmap, some activities have already been concluded while many more are lined up for this year, next year and 2026 – the year when actual polling for presidential, parliamentary and local governments will take place.

The Electoral Commission held the national training workshop for staff on commencement of revised roadmap, demarcation of electoral areas and reorganization of polling stations on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

Regional stakeholders engagement workshops on strategic plan, roadmap, demarcation of electoral areas and reorganization of polling stations happened on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

The recruitment, training and deployment of parish and sub county supervisors for purposes of reorganization of polling stations will start on Monday, August 05 and end on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Demarcation of constituencies and electoral areas and reorganization of polling stations will start on Tuesday, August 06, 2024, and end on Friday, August 16, 2024.

The general update of the register in each parish in line with article 61(1)(e), sections 18, 19(1) of  the Electoral Commission Act (ECA) will begin on Friday, January 03, 2025 and close on Friday, January 25, 2025.

The compilation of registers for youth, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), older persons and workers in line with section 18(1) of the Electoral Commission Act will start on Friday, January 03, 2025, and end on Friday, January 25, 2025.

The cutoff of update of the national voters’ register and compilation of registers for youth, PwDs, older persons and workers in line with section 19(7) and 19(8)(a) of the Electoral Commission Act is Friday, January 25, 2025.

The display of the national voters’ register at each polling station in line with section 24(1) and section 25(1) of the Electoral Commission Act will start on Friday, April 18, 2025 and end on Thursday, May 08, 2025.

The display of the voters’ register for the special interest groups (SIG) in each village, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), UPDF, EC and workers offices will start on Friday, April 18, 2025 and end on Monday April 28, 2025.

Nomination of candidates for village SIG committees – older persons, PwDs and youth, will begin on Monday, June 02, 2025, and end on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

From Wednesday, September 03, 2025, to Friday, September 12, 2025, the Electoral Commission will conduct the nomination of candidates for local governments, including special interest groups (SIGs) in line with Section 119, 119A of the Local Governments Act (LGA).

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025,   and Wednesday, September 17, 2025,  the EC will conduct the nomination of candidates for parliamentary seats in line with sections 4, 8, 8A-8I, and 11 of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

The nomination of presidential candidates in line with sections 4, 9 and 10 of the Presidential Elections Act will take place on Thursday, October 02, 2025 and Friday, October 03, 2025.

Poling or election period for presidential, parliamentary and local governments in line with article 61(2) of the constitution will happen from Monday, January 12, 2026 and end on Monday February 09, 2026.
