Kawanga Ssemogerere’s Brother Reveals Ex-DP Boss’ Last Moments Before Death

A younger brother to former Democratic Party (DP) president general and ex-presidential candidate Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere has revealed what happened before his elder brother breathed his last. Ugandans learnt of the demise of Dr Kawanga Ssemogerere on Friday, November 18 morning.

Ssemogerere, a former minister of public service, internal affairs, foreign affairs, as well as a former deputy prime minister in President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government, breathed his last after collapsing on his bed at about 4am at his home in Rubaga in the Capital Kampala.

His younger brother John Baptist Kawanga has revealed that Dr Ssemogerere’s health had deteriorated in the night of Thursday, November 17, prompting his family members to call his family doctor, a one Kasozi, who treated him and advised on what should be done to save the life of the 90-year-old veteran politician.

But Kawanga says that hours after Dr Kasozi checked on Ssemogerere and left him, hoping to hears news of improvement the following day, the former DP leader passed on in the night after his situation moved from being unstable to critical.

By the time of his death, he was with his wife in their house in the night. According to his brother Kawanga, Ssemogerere had gone to the bathroom at about 4am only for him to return and collapse on his bed and was later confirmed to have died.

It was not clear what exactly had caused the death of the elderly two-time presidential candidate. But he is said to have suffered intestinal obstruction for which he was operated on a few years ago. A postmortem report was expected soon to offer clarity on the exact cause of death.
