Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) commandant Maj Gen Abel Kandiho has reportedly downplayed sanctions by US government.
The sanctions against Maj Gen Kandiho were announced on December 07 by the US Treasury Department. The Treasury said Kandiho was involved in acts of repression in Uganda.
The UPDF said it was disappointed with the US over the sanctions.
NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine said the sanctions were a clear message that all security officers would have to account for their actions.
Veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye termed the sanctions “a step in the right direction” but asked the US to do more.
Yet Kandiho is said to be unbothered by the financial sanctions against him.
“No worries, I am not bothered by the so called sanctions, I have no business with USA. I am concentrating on my work. The threats we have in the region need more concentration. I will not allow to be diverted. At moment I am too occupied with more important operations,” Gen Kandiho has been quoted as saying.
He warned the US: “They should just be careful not to create unnecessary enemies and losing allies.”
