Kagame Sends Clear Message to Rwandans Planning to Travel to Museveni’s Uganda

“The only advice I can give to you is; was it necessary for you to go there? Why don’t you avoid going there?” Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda

Days after security agencies in Kampala arrested and released Victoria University vice chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga over espionage, President Paul Kagame has warned Rwandans against traveling to Uganda.

Uganda and Rwanda’s frosty relations have persisted over the years.

In 2019, Kagame closed its Katuna (Gatuna) border with Uganda.

Both countries accuse each other of attempting to cause instability in either nation.

As such many Ugandans have been arrested in Rwanda, and same killed.

Kampala, too, has made arrests of Rwandans or Banyarwanda believed to be spying for Kigali.

On September 05, Kagame told Rwandans travelling to Uganda remained a risky undertaking.

“There is only one way to avoid this problem; by not going there (to Uganda). Do not go there because if you cross the border and they arrest and beat you or rob you, and you come back, what do you want me to do? The only advice I can give to you is; was it necessary for you to go there? Why don’t you avoid going there?” Kagame told state-controlled Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA).

“That is another country and it has another way it is governed and I have no authority in that country. The only advice I can give to you is that do not go to Uganda.”
