President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has spoken out on reports that his government and military used Israeli spying software Pegasus to spy on several foreign politicians.
A report by Amnesty International and Forbidden Stories alleges that Kagame obtained loads of data on thousands of foreign officials by hacking their mobile phones using Pegasus software.
In Uganda, those spied on included former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi (now junior internal affairs minister), former foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa, and ex-prime minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda. Now, Kagame has told The Financial Times Kigali spies on other nations but can’t afford expensive pegasus technology.
“We know plenty about our enemies and those who support them. We use human intelligence and we are very good at that.”
