JUST IN: Museveni Set to Address Nation as Uganda Registers More Ebola Deaths

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni will address Ugandans on a number of issues of national importance, the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) has announced.

Gen Museveni is expected to, among other issues, give an update on the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which has killed more people and infected more others since the president’s address a few weeks ago.

The announcement for the second presidential address on Ebola comes hours after Dr Jane Ruth Aceng’s Ministry of Health confirmed seven new EVD deaths, bringing the total death toll at 17.

A total of 14 people are listed as active cases on admission.

As of October 09, four new Ebola cases were confirmed, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 48.

The Ministry has also registered 14 recoveries.

Up to 1,049 people have been listed for follow-up as a result of reported contact with those diagnosed with the viral haemorrhagic disease.

An October 11 notice from State House Department of Press and Public Relations indicated that the address will happen tomorrow in the evening.

“The Presidential Press Unit – PPU wishes to inform the general public that H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will this Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 at 8:00pm address the nation to give updates on the status of Ebola in the country,” read a statement from PPU.

“The address will be live on all radio and TV stations.”

When he last addressed Ugandans on the Ebola outbreak, Museveni gave his decision on the issue of putting in place a lockdown over the Ebola disease. (Read Story Here).

But since then, more health workers have succumbed to Ebola, raising the suspicion that Museveni might consider his position on the possibility of an Ebola lockdown. (Read Story Here).
