JUST IN: Museveni Promotes 380 UPDF Officers

UPDF Says Promotions 'Well Deserved'

Ugandan President and Commander in Chief (CiC) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has promoted 382 and confirmed 13 Senior and Junior officer ranks of the UPDF, the national army and ministry of Defence have announced.

Museveni promoted one UPDF officer from the rank of Colonel to that of Brigadier General. He also confirmed four acting colonels to the rank of colonel.

The president promoted 18 officers from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel. He also confirmed five acting lieutenant colonels to the rank of lieutenant colonel

The president promoted 61 UPDF officers from the rank of major to that of lieutenant colonel, and confirmed two acting majors to the rank of major.

Up to 92 UPDF officers were promoted from the rank of captain to that of major while two acting captains were confirmed to the rank of captain.

A total of 210 lieutenants were promoted to the rank of captain.

UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye said the promotions and confirmations of Senior and Junior officers were “well-deserved.”

However, Museveni’s government has previously been accused of tribalism when it comes to promotions and appointments. Some have even questioned the manner in which Museveni has been promoting his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba, now a general. (See Details Here and There).
