JUST IN: Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa Announces He’ll not Run for Speaker

Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has announced he will not join the race to replace late speaker Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.

Tayebwa (Ruhinda North – NRM) made the announcement March 22 morning, hours before those interested in the seat are expected to express interest in the NRM flag.

“I wish to thank you Honorable colleagues for the calls you have made to me to contest for the position of Speaker of Parliament after the unfortunate passing of our senior Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This shows you appreciate the work we are doing and it energizes us to do more,” he wrote.

“However, I want to inform you that I WILL NOT BE EXPRESSING INTEREST FOR THE POSITION OF SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT. I call on Honorable colleagues members of Parliament and the nation to remain united as we mourn our fallen hero.”

Those are reportedly interested in replacing the late Oulanyah as speaker include deputy speaker Anita Among. (Read Story Here).
