JOURNEY OF NO RETURN: Gen Elly Tumwine’s Body Airlifted to Kazo for Burial

The body of former security minister Gen Elly Tumwine has on the evening of Monday, August 29, 2022, been airlifted to his home in Rwemikoma, Kazo District in western Uganda where the former army commander will be laid to rest. 

Gen Tumwine’s body was flown from Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala after a day at of paying tribute to the fallen general in a state funeral service attended by President Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, his wife and minister of education and sports Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni, Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, among other officials.

A helicopter of the national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), delivered the the body at a school playground from where it was driven to his home in Mukuru Village an ambulance.

A Christian funeral service was conducted after which the body was placed in Gen Tumwine’s famous circular house where it will spend the night before being laid to rest on Tuesday, August 30.

According to the official burial program, Tumwine will be laid to rest on Tuesday, August 29, 2022.

Gen Tumwine was pronounced dead in the morning of Thursday, August 25, at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was being treated for weeks. He was aged 68.

Earlier today, Gen Elly Tumwine’s children spoke about the unforgettable memories they shared with him and his final 14 days on earth that they said seemed like a fire furnace. (Read Story Here).

His doctors also responded to claims that Gen Elly Tumwine’s lung cancer had been caused by smoking. The doctors, who had been working on Gen Tumwine since December 2020 also revealed the general’s journey of sickness up to the time of his death. (Read Story Here).
