Joshua Cheptegei Wins Men’s 5000m Prefontaine Classic Race

Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei has won the men’s 5000m race on Day One of the Prefontaine Classic.

Cheptegei finished in 12 minutes and 57.99 seconds at the Hayward Field, Eugene in the United States.

The athlete did not any record this time.

In July 2022, which is about eight weeks away, Cheptegei will return to Eugene for the Oregon Worlds.

It should be remembered that two years ago, Cheptegei broke world records. Perhaps the most significant of this was that of Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia in the 5000m race at the Monaco DL in France and the 10000m in Valencia, Spain in 2020.
