Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone, Kampala city Lord Mayor aspirant, has asked his National Unity Platform (NUP) to hand him the party flag for the 2021 elections, following Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebagala’s withdrawal from the race.
Chameleone’s request was in a letter that was presented by his campaign taskforce leader and former presidential candidate Samuel Lubega Mukaaku.
Mukaku addressed reporters during a press conference at his offices along Balintuma road in Rubaga.
His request comes a day after the party’s favourite candidate Ssebagala announced his decision to step down from the race for the good of a united opposition force
Mukaku said that their camp has a strong demand for the party flag since the lord mayor flag bearer position is now vacant.
Henry Lubowa, Chameleone’s campaigning manager, has requested NUP leadership to openly reveal the score sheet used to scrutinize their aspirant.
There have been reports that NUP refused to give Chameleone its flag because he is a Catholic.
But party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has dismissed this claim.
