President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government’s military arm, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has announced the recruitment of regular recruits, medical personnel, drivers and mechanics, among others, all of them totaling 10,000.
According to Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF and Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA), the recruitment is part of a comprehensive program undertaken in 2004 to transform the national army into a modern, professional and accountable force subordinate to the civilian authority.
“Part of this [program] is recruiting Ugandans who meet the standards prescribed in the UPDF Act 2005; Articles 51 and 52,” added Brig Gen Kulayigye. “We therefore would like to inform the public that UPDF is once again embarking on a recruitment exercise to attract very composed and patriotic Ugandans ready to serve in the regular, professional and specialized units.”
The recruitment exercise for the 10,000 Ugandans has been set for the period from June 18 to July 04, 2022.
The general recruitment, which will take place from June 18 to July 04, will see 8,300 regular recruits hired from various districts of Uganda. A total of 100 medical personnel will be recruited from June 30 to July 01, 2022 at Kololo Airstrip; up to 1,000 drivers and mechanics will be recruited from June 30 to July 01 at Gadhafi Barracks, Jinja, while 600 will be recruited in the Airforce at Kololo Ceremonial grounds from June 30 to July 01.
According to Kulayigye, candidates for these jobs must be citizens of Uganda holding the original National Identity Cards; must be in good health, medically fit and ready to undergo road run and check-ups; should be between the age of 18-25 or 18-30 to enlist as regulars or professionals, respectively; must be single with no children to avoid family distractions; and must be of good character and supported by letters from LCs and GISOs.
Regular recruits should possess a minimum education of S4 or S6 with bias in science subjects such as physics, chemistry and mathematics while professionals should be holders of Degrees/or Diplomas in Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, Education or possess qualifications in vocational skills.
The announcement of 10,000 UPDF jobs comes days after government announced 1,000 other job vacancies. (Read Story Here).
