Janet Museveni says School Reopening Date Announcement in Due Course, warns International Schools

First lady Janet Kataaha Museveni’s Ministry of Education and Sports has reiterated that its position on school reopening decisions and dates, and issued a warning to international schools.

In a reminder issued September 07, the Ministry of Education and Sports insisted it was yet to decide on a reopening date nor announce one as had been reported.

Ms Museveni and her ministry have also emphasized that they do not have the powers to decide on a reopening date. The decision and announcement of reopening dates would be made by the President.

As this publication reported recently, Ms Museveni will brief her husband President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his cabinet who will then make a final decision on the matter.

“The authentic dates for a general re-opening of schools shall be communicated in due time after Cabinet has taken a decision,” said the ministry.

It also sounded a warning to international schools to only reopen for finalists to do exams and not for other classes.

“International schools should only re-open for candidate classes to sit their final exams just as was done for candidates that sat Uneb exams.”
