Jacob Oulanyah’s Ex-Wife: Open the Casket & Allow Ugandans to Look at Late Speaker’s Body

Winnie Amoo, the ex-wife of Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, the late former speaker of the 11th Parliament, has demanded that the casket of her former husband be opened so that Ugandans can view the body.

Speaker Oulanyah died on March 20. (Read Story Here).

Oulanyah’s body was returned on April 01 amidst tears at the Entebbe International Airport. (Read Story Here).

The former speaker’s body was taken to his home in Muyenga, Kampala, on April 03. (Read Story Here).

On Tuesday, the body was brought to parliament where MPs paid tribute to Oulanyah.

The MPs also agreed on an annual Jacob Oulanyah Memorial Day. (Read Story Here).

But when MPs asked Speaker Anita Among to allow them view Oulanyah’s body, she said she had viewed and dressed the body on the former speaker. (Read Story Here).

Now, Oulanyah’s ex-wife says people should be allowed to view Oulanyah’s body.

“No one has seen him since he ‘so called’ landed. What kind of life is this we are living? And why are the MPs OK with it, we must wake up Uganda. What is a wake or vigil without viewing?” asked Amoo.

“No one has seen, and is it a crime for the rest to view?”

A national funeral service happened at the Kololo Independence Grounds on April 06.
