ICT and National Guidance Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi has castigated police spokesperson Fred Enanga over summons related to late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s poisoning claims.

On April 11, Enanga revealed names of people police would summon over claims that Oulanyah was poisoned. (Read Story Here).

But Baryomunsi, one of those summoned, has told Enanga and Uganda Police Force to be professional and stop dragging his name in the ‘poison dram.’

“From what I have received, am I among those who have been saying he was poisoned? So he should be professional in the way he does his investigations. Enanga in my language is a musical instrument and this time round he is adding a discord. Because his statement is saying he is focusing on those who are peddling information that Jacob Oulanyah was poisoned,” said Baryomunsi.

“His [Oulanyah’s] father says ‘my son told me.’ So, it will be Oulanyah’s word against that of his father. My advice to police is, ‘yes, investigate but do it professionally and avoid dragging our names into this drama of poison.”

The information minister insisted Oulanyah was not poisoned. He called on Ugandans to allow the former speaker’s soul to rest in peace.

“Let us allow Oulanyah to rest instead of keeping this discussion. I don’t know what benefit [it gives],” he said.

“I want to add my voice to caution those Ugandans who want to continue with that drama of poison because there is no justification whatsoever for anybody to keep saying that Oulanyah was poisoned.”

He also said that police should ensure that Nathan Okori, Oulanyah’s father gets counselled, instead of being summoned.
