JACOB OULANYAH IN, KADAGA OUT: NRM CEC picks Oulanyah for speaker, rejects Kadaga third term bid

Majority of the members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have picked Jacob Oulanyah as candidate for the 11th Parliament speaker position, dumping Rebecca Kadaga.

Kadaga was seeking a third term as speaker.

She took over from outgoing Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi in 2011.

Her deputy Oulanyah has served under her for that decade, expressing interest in the legislative arm of Government’s top job.

In 2016, NRM CEC asked Oulanyah to step down for Kadaga to complete her 10 years as speaker just like her predecessor Ssekandi had been at the helm for a decade.

NRM CEC will now hope that the parliamentary caucus sitting at State House Entebbe this afternoon agrees to vote Oulanyah in the May 24 speaker election.
