Jacob Oulanyah: I have more potential than Kadaga

Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah says he has more potential to steer the 11th Parliament compared to his former boss Rebecca Kadaga.

Oulanyah has been deputy speaker for a decade. Kadaga has been at the helm for the same time and is now seeking a third term.

After submitting his letter of expression of interest for the Speakership of the 11th Parliament on May 21, Oulanyah said “the next five years of Parliament should not be the same as before” but “it should be a different Parliament.”

He also waxed lyrical about his potential.

“And for me this is what I offer: potential. Yes we can look at history but we should look critically at the potential that the candidate offers,” said Oulanyah.

“The history we know but potential we understand.Potential gives hope and that hope should be used to give chance to the 11th Parliament to do better.”

The ruling NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) is expected to convene today to vet Kadaga and Oulanyah, before the Parliamentary caucus makes a final decision on Sunday ahead of May 24 speaker election.
