Fire has gutted the Main Building (Ivory Tower) of Makerere University, Uganda’s largest and oldest higher learning institution.
The September 20 fire flames could be seen from hills such as Nakasero.
The university administration said “it’s a trying moment for us.”
“The fire brigade is on ground. Everyone is trying their best. The fire is heavy and sprouting from the right side of the Building,” read an update on the university Facebook page a few minutes to 2am of September 20.
“The fire flames are heavy coming through right side of the roof which has sunk in. We all need to pray for the Ivory Tower.”
Reacting to the news of the night fire, guild president Julius Kateregga said: “MY HEART IS BROKEN. The Makerere University Ivory tower has Caught Fire.”
