Kenya’s 2022 presidential election loser Raila Amolo Odinga has spoken out on the Supreme Court ruling, giving a hint on his next course of action.
According to Odinga, the Chief Justice Martha Koome led Supreme Court ignored the evidence presented by the petitioners’ lawyers.
“We have taken note of the decision of the Supreme Court on the Presidential election held on August 9th, 2022. Our lawyers proffered irrefutable evidence and the facts were on our side, unfortunately the judges saw it otherwise,” wrote Odinga in a statement issued by his campaign secretariat.
“We find it incredible that the judges found against us on all nine (9) grounds and occasion resulted to unduly exaggerated language to refute our claims.”
Odinga went on to say that while he and his Azimio La Umoja disagree with the ruling, they would respect it.
“We have always stood for the rule of law and the constitution. In this regard, we respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision today.
On what next for him and Azimio, Odinga suggested it was not yet Uhuru. So, what’s the plan?
“This judgement is by no means the end of our movement, in fact it inspires us to redouble our efforts to transform this country into a prosperous democracy where each and every Kenyan can find their full belonging,” said Odinga.
He also saluted his supporters and promised to communicate a comprehensive plan of action in the near future.
“We thank our supporters and Kenyans across the country for standing with us,” noted the opposition politician.
“We will be communicating in the near future on our plans to continue our struggle for transparency, accountability and democracy.”
Earlier, the seven judges of the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the evidence presented by Odinga’s lawyers was ‘hot air’. The Supreme Court then upheld William Ruto’s election as Kenya’s fifth president. (Read Story Here).
