MY FATHER APPOINTED A SOBER NON-PERFORMER LIKE YOU BY MISTAKE: Muhoozi Tells Ex-Army Commander Muntu He’s Only Fit for Seminary & Church Choir

First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has told former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu that it was a mistake for his father Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to appoint him army commander.

Maj Gen Muntu was army commander of the National Resistance Army (NRA), and later the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). He served for a period of nine years, from 1989 to 1998 when he was relieved of his duties.

But Lt Gen Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son and Commander of UPDF Land Forces, has told Muntu that he thinks it was a mistake for Museveni to appoint him army commander. The first son, who is his father Museveni’s senior advisor on special operations, said he would have preferred Col Jet Tumwebaze. A former NRA bush war fighter, Col Tumwebaze died in an aircraft  crash in 1998.

Without mentioning Muntu’s name, but making glaring allusions, Muhoozi argued that the former bush war general, who was shot in the chest during the war, should be in the seminary or church choir serving the Lord.

“Mistakes we regret. Late Afande Jet should have been Army Commander! Our great Army would have been much greater. We spent almost nine years under so called ‘Sober’ non-performers! They were better qualified for seminaries and church choirs than the army,” said Muhoozi.

“I wish my father had made Colonel Jet Mwebaze, Army Commander after Afande Saleh in 1989. He was a great commander for sure!”

Muntu would later fall out with Museveni and join opposition politics. He served as FDC president and later left the party after he lost the presidency role to Patrick Oboi Amuriat. Muntu would then form the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party for which he was flag bearer.

Maj Gen Muntu has been vocal in telling Muhoozi to retire from the army and pursue his political ambitions, especially after the first son made political statements on Twitter and during his 48th birthday celebrations.

Muntu has also told Muhoozi that he might win some votes in a presidential election if he ‘annoys’ his father and pushes for reform within the ruling NRM party. (Read Story Here).

But Muhoozi has told Muntu that he and his father Museveni do not need his advice, before telling him to concentrate on his ‘small collapsing party.’ (Read Story Here).
