Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao has apologized to veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye after he told lied about him on television.
During an NBS Television Frontline show, Mao had claimed that Besigye had moved a motion to extend NRM rule in 1989.
Besigye was then the NRM National Political Commissar.
But after the show, Mao had called Besigye to verify this information.
Besigye told the DP president it was retired Supreme Court judge Prof George Wilson Kanyeihamba.
Mao has now issued an apology.
“On the NBS Frontline show I stated that in 1989, Besigye then NRM National Political Commissar was a mover of the NRC resolution to extend the NRM rule,” said Mao.
“I’ve spoken to him and he told me that the mover of the motion was Justice Kanyeihamba. I apologize and stand corrected.”
