I’M SORRY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME: First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba Finally Apologizes to Karamojong for Taking Hell to Their Region

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has apologized to the people of Karamoja after he months ago threatened to take hell to their region.

In March 2022, suspected cattle rustlers and warriors ended the lives of three geologists from the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, including an intern from Makerere University, as well as three UPDF soldiers who had escorted these experts in in Lotisan Sub County, Moroto District, Karamoja Sub Region.

As the Commander of the Land Forces of Uganda’s national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Lt Gen Kainerugaba was particularly infuriated by the killing of the soldiers. As a result, he promised to take hell to Karamoja if the warriors do not stop their provocation.

The threats of taking hell to Karamoja earned Lt Gen Kainerugaba condemnation from opposition politicians and human rights activists who argued that the statements were reckless, especially coming from a top leader in the country’s national army.

Now, the first son has apologized to the people of Karamoja for his threats and actions of UPDF officers, saying he was just angry when he made the statements. He even says he is ready to become a Karamojong.

“To my Karimojong brothers and sisters, we have the same blood. I want to apologise to you my relatives for my past anger. I am now ready to become a Karimojong myself,” wrote Museveni’s son.

Months ago, the UPDF confirmed that about 300 suspected Karamojong rustlers were killed around the time Muhoozi made his statement of threats. (Read Stories Here and There).
