I Know I Will Lose Everything When Museveni Leaves Power – Top Government Official

Since Uganda gained her independence from the British colonialists in 1962, up to 10 leaders have reigned, holding the country’s top most office: the presidency. And regime changes in Uganda have mostly been chaotic. A top government now fears she will lose everything when President Yoweri Museveni leaves power.

Museveni has ruled Uganda for over a half of her independence. On October 09, 2024, the country marked 62 years of self-rule. Of these, President Museveni has ruled for nearly four decades.

In power since 1986 when he took over after a five-year bush war that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, Museveni has indicated that he will run for reelection to extend his rule to 45 years at the helm by the end of 2031.

He is aged 80. Like all presidents before him, he will one day leave power. But the thought of the day when Museveni leaves power has some people, especially those associated with the regime as well as its beneficiaries, thinking the worst.

One of those worried is Catherine Kamwiine, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Mbarara. Recalling her father being harassed after being found with iron sheets in the previous regime of terror, RCC Kamwiine is worried that the exit of Museveni from the political stage might come with consequences for her and others.

When Museveni leaves power, Kamwine worries, the status of some people will change since it was evidently the president sustaining it.

Worried that all she has may be gone as Museveni leaves power, RCC Kamwiine has called for the toning down on the political rhetoric that is peppered with hatred. She also think those within and out of government should consider changing their ways.

“I am sure I will lose everything I own when this government is no longer in power, and I have no apologies for saying this,” RCC Kamwiine told government officials visiting Mbarara City recently. “Let’s reduce the politics of hatred, accept our mistakes, and change.”

The government official has also warned that Banyankore noisemakers wishing Museveni exit will regret when Mzee leaves. Opposition leader Bobi Wine has previously said Museveni will go to prison when he leaves power. (See Details Here and There).
