Singer Evelyn Lagu has dismissed reports by her ex-husband that she forced their son to donate a kidney to save her life.
Evelyn Lagu requires about Shs250m for a kidney transplant and other life-saving operations.
Her fundraising drive fell short of that figure.
To cut the cost, Lagu says her son volunteered to donate his kidney, since they share genes.
“I didn’t compel nor drag him to donate his kidney to me. I know he is not yet 18 years of age and is not allowed to donate a body organ. But he will turn 18 next month,” Lagu told Spark TV.
“He just tactfully got money from me saying he wanted to buy something only for him to go and check his blood group at Nakasero. Fortunately he found out that we are of the same blood group, and he was happy.
“He told me ‘you think God doesn’t know I can help you? He gave me you, He knew I would help at this time.”
Lagu also spoke well of her son.
“He loves me so much. I can’t explain the bond I have with him. He is my best friend, more like a brother and has been there for me through this sickness. No relative of mine helped me or my son during this tough time.”
Lagu insisted she has not decided it is son who will donate a kidney to her. After all no one can wish one’s child bad things, she added.
