Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ugandan first son and tweeting general, says he could arrest and throw in prison a Kenyan lawyer who has dragged him to court for treason. Gen Muhoozi, Museveni’s ‘only’ son and senior presidential advisor on special operations, is known for his controversial tweets, some of which have rubbed nations the wrong way.

His most controversial tweet, which won him the attention and ridicule of many Kenyans, had something to do with the supposed ability of his army to capture Nairobi within two weeks and his reference to the Republic of Kenya as a district of Uganda. For this controversial tweet, Muhoozi earned himself the name ‘General Twitter’ and many others like that in Kenya, and opened up several tweefs between Kenyans and Ugandans on Twitter (KOT vs UOT).

The controversial tweets, sent out on October 03, 2022, read: “It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi. I’m happy that members of our district in Kenya, have responded enthusiastically to my tweet. It is still 2 weeks to Nairobi. After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands? Riverside?”

It is this tweet that has prompted Advocate Apollo Mboya to file a case at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi with the intention of having President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son gen Muhoozi charged with and tried for treason.

In the petition, Mboya lists the Inspector General of Police as the first respondent and the  Director of Public Prosecutions as the second respondent while Gen Muhoozi is the third respondent. Mboya wants the first and second respondents to explain why they failed to take action against Gen Muhoozi whose remarks he insists are a threat to Kenya and undermine Kenya’s sovereignty.

Advocate Mboya argues that Muhoozi’s threats to capture Nairobi should not be taken lightly, saying that they tweets are also a threat to Kenya’s territorial integrity.  Mboya also noted that Gen Museveni, Muhoozi’s father, had promoted his son following the careless tweets that threatened the territorial integrity, security and soverignty of the Republic of Kenya.

“That Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the third Respondent who is a Senior Military Officer in the neighboring country of Uganda has committed treasonable offences of threatening national security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kenya after expressing his intention to launch a military invasion to capture Nairobi, the capital city of the Republic of Kenya within two  weeks,” wrote Mboya in his petition.

“The Head of State of the Republic of Uganda who is also the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has rewarded Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba by promoting him to a full General of the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Force (UPDF) following his threats to invade Kenya thereby conferring additional capabilities to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.”

It should be remembered that following the publication of the controversial tweets, Gen Museveni fired his son from the position of Commander of UPDF Land Forces but promoted him from the rank of Lieutenant General to that of General, the highest in the national army. Besides apologizing to Kenyans and their president Dr William Sameoi Ruto, Museveni also gave reasons as to why he promoted his 48-year-old carelessly tweeting son to the rank of a full general. (See Details Here and There). Gen Muhoozi has also revealed why his father Museveni fired him as shown Here.

For now, Advocate Mboya has asked court to certify his application, label it urgent and issue orders to the effect that Museveni’s son and senior advisor on special operations has a prima facie case to answer, and that he should be tried for treason. Mboya has also asked court to compel the Inspector General of Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to give court a report on its probe in Muhoozi’s actions as well as charge sheet clearly showing the charges preferred against the Ugandan son who is said to be a crown prince and an heir apparent to the Museveni throne.

MUHOOZI SCOFFS AT ADVOCATE MBOYA

After reading about Mboya’s court petition, Gen Muhoozi has laughed it off, and threatened to arrest those seeking to slap treason charges against him. “Haha! Maybe I should arrest the ones who are charging me with treason?” Muhoozi tweeted, expressing his disdain for a court process that seeks to have him defend himself.

This is not the first time, Gen Muhoozi is being dragged to court for his tweets and actions. Months ago, a fearless Ugandan lawyer sued the untouchable first son over his birthday posts and Twitter posts. In response, Muhoozi described the lawyer as a ‘small hater’ and assured him that the ‘highest judge’ was on his (Muhoozi’s) side. (Read Story Here).

It also appears that Muhoozi is beginning to disagree with his father on a number of issues, including succession. The young general recently revealed his plan to take over from his father Gen Museveni in the year 2026. However, Museveni’s NRM office and several other ruling party groups have already endorsed Museveni’s 2026 presidential bid, leaving Muhoozi and his supporters in tears. (Details are Here).
