A court in South Africa has convicted Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Micho Sredojević of two counts of sexual assault.
Coach Micho appeared before Gqeberha Regional Court, South Africa, where he was handed a three-year imprisonment term, suspended for five years.
The implication here is that if Micho is convicted of the same offence within the next five years, he will be immediately arrested to serve the five-year jai term.
This was not the first time Micho was appearing in court over sexual offences.
In December 2020, Micho appeared before the New Brighton Magistrates Court.
According to the South African National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Micho committed the offences on Monday, December 07, 2020 in Port Elizabeth where he had gone to attend the U-21 Afcon qualifiers in the Wolfson Stadium, South Africa.
Micho was head coach of the Zambian National Football team Chipolopolo after he left South African club Orlando Pirates.
He is said to have asked a woman serving coffee “another type of sugar,” and later touched her private parts.
“A 39-year-old woman was delivering coffee at the Wolfson Stadium when she asked Sredojevic if he would need sugar with his coffee. He allegedly said no and disclosed that he needed another type of sugar while pointing at her private parts. It is alleged that the lady complained to her boss, who in turn warned Sredojevic not to do it again,” NPA submitted.
“Later on that day, the lady went to deliver coffee again at the same stadium and this time Sredojevic allegedly touched her in an inappropriate manner.”
In a statement, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) said Micho was expected in the country soon.
“The Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic asked FUFA for permission to attend to a private matter in South Africa. We have this afternoon received information that the private matter has been concluded for now,” read a statement from Fufa.
“The coach will come back to resume his duties accordingly.”
