Officers of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) arrested President Yoweri Museveni’s advisor on ghetto issues Mark Bugembe, alias Buchaman, for disrupting an environment assessment activity, the force has said.
According to Kampala police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Buchaman led a group of rowdy youths to block a National Environment Management Authority (Nema) meeting.
Katwe Police officers swung into action to net Buchaman, also a local singer, for inciting youths to stop the Nema meeting on Thursday.
The Nema team had gone to Makindye to assess the impact of rising water levels of Lake Victoria on the surrounding areas.
But Buchaman insisted police and Nema should have consulted him first in his capacity as presidential advisor in the locality.
“After their assessment, they gathered the community and they were addressing them. Bugembe gathered other unruly youth and they stormed the meeting with intention of disrupting it that he is a Presidential Adviser and he doesn’t want the meeting to take place,” said Onyango.
“He was picked together with his bodyguard since he was the ringleader and taken to Katwe police station.”
Handpicked last year alongside singers Catherine Kusasira and Jenipher Nakanguubi aka Full Figure as advisors, Buchaman formerly sang in the same outfit with Bobi Wine.
Some people interpreted the appointment of the singers as Museveni’s plot to neutralise the support of Bobi Wine, alias Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, in the Kampala ghettos.
Bobi Wine is the Kyadondo East MP. He is also using his People Power pressure group to push his presidential bid. He has already declared he will challenge Museveni in the 2021 general elections.
But the trio of Buchaman, Kusasira and Full Figure is yet to be approved by the Public Service Commission for official appointment.
