Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, whose head is first lady Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni, is the latest institution to start investigations into acts of homosexuality at King’s College Budo after allegations that a male teacher and Ghana House master sodomized a Senior Six student.
The allegations started after a parent took to social media to expose the teacher and the school. “The teacher of King’s College Budo has been sodomizing my son for four years now. My son got problems going to the toilet; so, I took him to Mulago Hospital because I have my relative doctor there. They found him with STI commonly found in gay men,” read the allegation by the parent in part.
Namirembe Diocese of the Anglican Church of Uganda (CoU), the King’s College Budo founding body, is said to be probing the allegations, with reports of acts of homosexuality thriving at the church-founded school being of grave concern to CoU whose stance on the issue is clearly against LGBTI practices. It should be remembered that the latest case is not the first one.
Besides the church, Parliament of Uganda is the other institution that has ordered a probe into the allegations, with a committee expected to quiz school bosses, named teachers and students in a probe that is intended to rid the school of the vice and restore morals among members of the prominent school.
Parliament’s investigation is also expected to extend to Vienna College Namugongo where photos of same-sex girls-only couples have left social media moral police officers spitting fire and accusing the international school of promoting gay, lesbian and other homosexuality acts among young people. Now, the education ministry has also intervened in the matter, summoning school bosses to give their side of the story and explain what they are doing to block homosexuality from taking root in the school.
On January 17, Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, wrote to the the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the District Education Officer (DEO) of Wakiso District Local Government; the Director Education, Church of Uganda, the Chairperson, Board of Governors, the Chairperson, Parents Teachers’ Association, and the Headteacher, King’s College Budo, inviting them for a meeting to discuss social media message in regard to alleged improper conduct at the prominent institution.
The meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Details of the discussions in the meeting remain undisclosed. But Minister Ms Museveni, a born again Christian, frowns upon acts of homosexuality.
Meanwhile, in a statement attributed to Budo headmaster John Kazibwe, the school has reportedly admitted that its male teacher sodomized the student in question. But some members of the school management are said to have dismissed the statement. However, its content remains the subject of discussion on social media. (Read Story Here).
