He then took oath of office, administered by President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, with the help of clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige and Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo who had presided over the election.
Oulanyah swore to defend and uphold the Constitution while executing his duties as Speaker.
He admitted the speaker race was a tough battle but preached unity moving forward.
“This election was particularly challenging. As a result, expectations are high, fears and uncertainties exist; but together, we should build bridges, mend relationships, rebuild friendships and replace despair with hope,” he said.
“I pledge to provide leadership through this and walk the talk. Ribbe Aye Teko ( We are stronger together).”
