Here are the Requirements for Over 9600 UPDF Jobs and How to Apply

Uganda’s national army, the UPDF, will recruit a little over 9,600 officers (9,627 to be exact) into infantry forces. The recruitment exercise will happen from July 01, 2024 to July 14, 2024, according to army and defence spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.

“The exercise shall last for 56 Days including submission, verification of applications and final recruitment of successful candidates,” added Kulayigye on the duration of the exercise.

On the procedure for the recruitment exercise, Kulayigye said the aspiring candidates applying to join the regular force must get recommendations from LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO and DISO.

“Thereafter, they will submit their application forms to the office of RDC where they will be registered and awaiting collection by the UPDF collection teams that will submit them to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management which will cause a shortlist,” he added.

“The list of successful applicants will be published/displayed on the District/City notice boards informing the shortlisted applicants to appear at designated recruitment centres for the final interviews.”

He went on to note that the recruitment shall be conducted using the projected population figures of each District or City of Uganda that forms the basis of recruitment quotas.

Kulayigye explained that the quotas for potential recruits are computed by the proportion of the population of each City or District of Uganda based on the updated population as of June 25, 2023 by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).

As such, the Regular Force Recruitment 2023-24 will be conducted throughout the entire country covering the 135 districts and 11 Cities, all under 1o zones.

The 10 Regular Force Recruitment zones are: Buganda, Busoga, Bukedi/Teso, Mid-Western, Kampala Extra, Rwenzori, Northern, Karamoja/Sebei, West Nile, and Western.

There will be accreditation and certification, with each participant in the recruitment exercise having a security pass.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS

According to Kulayigye, eligible candidates must be be citizens of Uganda in possession of an original National Identity Card.

They also be medically fit and ready to undergo medical and body fitness tests.

Regarding age and gender, eligible candidates must be adult male or female between 18 and 22 years.

They must also have formal education, strictly of S.4 (UCE) and must have completed their O-level education in the years 2020 – 2023. The eligible candidates must have passed English and Mathematics.

Application Letters duly signed by LCI, LCII & LCIII Chairpersons, GISO or DISO and RDC are a MUST. Also, candidates must be residents of the area, disciplined and with no criminal record.

“The UPDF leadership calls upon all eligible candidates to take advantage of this opportunity to serve in the UPDF and wishes those who will succeed in this exercise good luck in their military careers where Patriotism, nationalism and Pan-Africanism are the basis of our service to all,” said Kulayigye.

The recruitment of UPDF soldiers follows another exercise for the hiring of thousands of police officers. (Read Details Here).

Meanwhile, the UPDF recruitment comes at a time when Museveni’s government is increasing salaries of soldiers. (See Details Here).
