Uganda’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has issued a statement on the new Covid19 Omicron variant in the country.
As we reported hours earlier, Uganda has confirmed cases of the Omicron strain.
Hours after this report, MoH issued an official statement confirming the Omicron variant in Uganda.
The ministry has revealed the countries from which travelers who had the Omicron variant had come from.
“Uganda has confirmed seven cases of the Omicron variant. Five of these arrived from Nigeria while two arrived from South Africa,” read the statement from MoH.
“This was confirmed by the genomic surveillance that we have been carrying out at the various points of entry and among the general population.”
It also talked about the health condition of the first Omicron variant patients.
“The confirmed cases have been isolated and are being closely monitored,” read the statement in part.
“They are not severely ill.”
On what Ugandans should do, MoH has called for calm, urged more adherence to prevention guidelines and uptake of Covid19 vaccines.
“The population is encouraged to remain calm, get vaccinated against Covid19 and adhere to the SOPs,” the statement further read.
