HE WAS ‘DRUNK’: Police Reveals Cause of Nasty Accident that Killed Galaxy FM Boss

A preliminary report by the Traffic Department of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) suggests that Galaxy FM Radio Co-Director and Chairman Pius Kamugisha could have been drunk when got involved in an accident that ended his life on the night of Saturday, October 22, 2022. 

Pius Kamugisha’s station announced his death on Sunday morning. Police Traffic Department spokesperson Faridah Nampiima would later offer details on how the accident happened. According to Nampiima, the territorial traffic police at Kajjansi registered a fatal accident at Nakigala along the Entebbe Kampala Express highway on October 22, 2022 at about 2200 hours (10pm).

Popularly known as Uncle Pio, Kamuhisha was driving in his motor vehicle Registration Number UBK 320P, a Benz, black in color when his car collided with motor vehicle registration number UG 0382D, a Toyota Hilux, behind whose wheels was an officer of the national army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The soldier has been identified as Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Ephraim Byaruhabga, the IO of the First Division based at Kakiri.

The body of the deceased, Mr Pius Kamugisha aka Uncle Pio, was conveyed to Mulago mortuary as his family and radio station prepare for his burial. Traffic Police Department spokesperson Nampiima attributed the accident to reckless driving and drink driving. Nampiima revealed that bottles of alcohol were found in Kamugisha’s Benz.

“The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving and drink driving (as some Bottles of Alcohol were recovered from the vehicle of the deceased),” said Nampiima.
